The company announced the release of the updated client on July 20, 2026, marking a shift toward modernizing its mobile foundation.
Building From a New Foundation
The transition to the new Android architecture involved moving away from the previous codebase entirely. According to the company, the development cycle lasted nearly a year, beginning after leadership assembled a dedicated mobile engineering team last August. Unlike previous iterative patches, this project functioned as a total replacement for the existing interface, which users previously reported suffered from severe stability issues, including failures to load linked content.
Engineering Scope and Modernization
The technical shift centers on a implementation of a Kotlin and Jetpack Compose stack. While the company has integrated automated assistance tools elsewhere in its operations, X clarified that this specific project was a manual engineering undertaking. Other planned updates include the integration of a native video editor and custom timelines.
