According to the company, the development cycle lasted nearly a year, beginning after leadership assembled a dedicated mobile engineering team last August. Unlike previous iterative patches, this project functioned as a total replacement for the existing interface, which users previously reported suffered from severe stability issues, including failures to load linked content.

Engineering Scope and Modernization

The technical shift centers on a implementation of a Kotlin and Jetpack Compose stack. While the company has integrated automated assistance tools elsewhere in its operations, X clarified that this specific project was a manual engineering undertaking. Specifically, the development team has not yet finished optimizing performance for older Android devices, and support for the platform’s live audio feature, Spaces, remains pending. Other planned updates include the integration of a native video editor and custom timelines.
