The headline act is the Swift Blade 14, which at 799 grams (1.76lb) claims the title of the lightest laptop launched globally. That distinction comes with a footnote — Fujitsu's LifeBook line includes lighter models, but those are niche products aimed primarily at Japan and parts of Asia. In the broader consumer market, Acer's new notebook takes the crown.
A featherweight chassis with a premium feel
To hit that weight, Acer combined carbon fiber with a magnesium-aluminum alloy for the chassis. The company says this blend keeps the laptop durable despite being incredibly light. The materials are a step beyond the typical plastic or standard aluminum found in many ultraportables.
The Blade 14 doesn't skimp on display either. It sports a 14-inch OLED panel with a 3K resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio. That's a screen that should appeal to productivity users who want sharp text and vibrant colors.
Specs tuned for efficiency, not max power
Under the hood, Acer opted for Intel's Core Series 3 CPU — specifically the Wildcat Lake models, which are designed to be power-efficient and easier to cool in a slim chassis. The laptop comes with 12GB of RAM, a slight step down from the 16GB many might expect. That compromise likely helps keep the price in check, though Acer hasn't announced pricing or a launch date yet.
The choice of a lower-power processor and 12GB of RAM suggests the Blade 14 is aimed at users who prioritize portability and battery life over raw performance. It's a tradeoff that makes sense for a laptop this light, but it also means it's not meant for heavy gaming or intensive content creation.
From featherweight to fixer-upper
Acer also unveiled the Vero 16 at IFA, a notebook that flips the script on planned obsolescence. The company emphasizes a "more serviceable design [that] makes key components easier to access, repair, and replace," with the goal of extending the device's usable life.
That philosophy is backed by concrete features. The Vero 16 offers tool-free access to its internals, with a replaceable SSD and battery. The RAM is soldered to the motherboard, which rules out upgrades there, but the USB ports are removable and the hinge between the body and screen can be replaced if it wears out.
An upgradeable CPU — a rarity in laptops
Perhaps the most unusual aspect of the Vero 16 is that the processor itself can be upgraded. Notebookcheck.net notes this capability, though Acer hasn't detailed exactly how it works. It likely involves a motherboard swap, which would also allow RAM upgrades simultaneously. Acer has indicated the design will support at least two generations of future CPU silicon.
That kind of upgrade path is almost unheard of in modern laptops, where processors are typically soldered and irreplaceable. If the Vero 16 delivers on this promise, it could set a new standard for repairability in the industry.
Green credentials and display options
The Vero 16's eco-friendly focus extends to its materials. Acer says the aluminum chassis is made from a "blend of 50% post-industrial recycled aluminum and 50% low-carbon aluminum." The packaging is also 100% recyclable.
Under the hood, it's powered by Intel's Panther Lake architecture, with options up to an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H chip and integrated Arc B390 graphics. Buyers can choose between a 3K OLED or a 2K OLED touchscreen display, depending on their needs.
Pricing and availability still unclear
Acer hasn't revealed prices or release dates for either laptop, leaving potential buyers in the dark for now. The company is expected to share more details later this year. For the Swift Blade 14, the premium materials and OLED screen suggest it won't come cheap, despite the cost-saving CPU and RAM choices.
For the Vero 16, the focus on repairability could justify a higher price if it means a longer lifespan. But without concrete numbers, it's hard to assess whether these machines will appeal beyond early adopters.
